Mitosis

Even though I was gone for the mitosis lab(sadly) I really learned a lot from the website on edmodo.com. I learned about the different phases of mitosis. Mitosis is basically like cloning because the cell just divides in order to create a new living organism, almost exactly like the "parent". Examples would be different types of plants.
Interphase is when the DNA duplicates to prepare for mitosis.
Prophase is when the nuclear membrane dissolves, proteins attach to centromeres creating kinetochores, microtubules attach at the kinetochores and the chromosomes move.
Metaphase is when the spindle fibers align chromosomes along the middle of the cell nucleus. The formed line is called the metaphase plate.
Anaphase is when the paired chromosomes separate at the kinetochores and move to opposite sides of the cell.
Telophase is when the new membranes form around the daughter nuclei while the chromosomes disperse and are no longer visible under the light microscope. Cytokinesis may also occur.
The results from the online tutorial are as follows:
          Interphase      Prophase      Metaphase      Anaphase      Telophase
# Cells   20                   10                 3                    2                 1
% Cells    55.6%           27.8%           8.3%               5.6%           2.8%

The differences between the different stages of mitosis are pretty easily determined, as soon as you learn what you're looking for.
